Aleema Khan files a writ petition in the Islamabad High Court against her brother's alleged solitary confinement, citing constitutional violations and lack of judicial order.
Imran Khan's sister Aleema Khan has filed a writ petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the alleged solitary confinement of her brother, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan. The petition, filed through Barristers Salman Safdar and Salman Akram Raja, argues that keeping the ex-leader in solitary confinement is unlawful and not supported by any judicial order.
Aleema Khan stated in her petition that no court has ever sentenced her brother to solitary confinement. She also alleges that his lawyers are being prevented from meeting him for legal consultation and signing power of attorney documents. The petition requests the high court to declare the alleged solitary confinement as illegal, unlawful, and without lawful authority.
The petition further maintains that the alleged confinement violates Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution of Pakistan. Aleema's concerns align with those raised by other PTI leaders and Imran Khan’s sisters regarding his deteriorating health and lack of access to adequate facilities in prison.
Imran Khan has been incarcerated at Rawalpindi's Adiala jail since August 2023, spending over 1,000 days in custody. His sisters have repeatedly expressed concern about his health and the need for proper medical care and diagnostic testing under supervision by doctors and family members. They also demand greater access to meetings with relatives.
Aleema Khan's legal action comes amidst ongoing disputes regarding Imran Khan’s convictions, which he denies all wrongdoing. The federal government and Adiala jail administration have previously rejected these claims. Despite the health concerns and repeated demands for transfer, neither side has agreed to Aleema's request for her brother's immediate release or improved conditions.
The case highlights the complex legal and humanitarian issues surrounding Imran Khan’s detention in Pakistan, with his sisters seeking intervention from a higher court to address their brother's alleged mistreatment.
