Mortal Kombat II, the sequel to 2021's Mortal Kombat, opened with a strong global debut, earning $63 million in its opening weekend.

Directed by Simon McQuoid, the film follows Johnny Cage and other Earthrealm warriors as they battle Shao Kahn in an inter-dimensional tournament. It features classic characters like Kitana, Raiden, Liu Kang, and Scorpion.

The movie combines intense action with emotional moments, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers who enjoyed previous Mortal Kombat games.

Despite strong domestic performance ($40 million in North America), international earnings were lower than expected. Competing releases like The Devil Wears Prada 2 also affected the film's success.

With a budget of $80 million, Mortal Kombat II is now under scrutiny to see if it can maintain its momentum globally and plans for a third installment are already in motion.
