Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi urges early launch of direct flights between Pakistan and US, emphasizing mutual trust and bilateral cooperation.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed the government's desire for the early commencement of direct flights between Pakistan and the United States. Speaking at a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur on May 15, 2026, Naqvi highlighted that ties between the two nations are built upon mutual trust and collaborative efforts.

During their discussion, Naqvi underscored the strengthening of Pakistan-US relations under President Donald Trump's tenure. He also mentioned that security for US companies involved in the Reko Diq project had been guaranteed by Pakistani authorities. The interior minister expressed hope for a lasting and peaceful resolution to Middle East conflicts, noting that Pakistan has played an active role in promoting peace and stability in the region.

In response to Naqvi's remarks, Paul Kapur praised Pakistan's contributions towards regional peace and security. "Our government is also working closely with the aviation authority of the US to revive direct flight operations to [the] US," Naqvi stated. He he wished all stakeholders a brighter future after the successful transformation of the aviation sector in Pakistan, acknowledged by international aviation authorities.

The Interior Ministry's statement came shortly after Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) resumed its direct flights to London after a six-year hiatus on March 29, 2026. PIA confirmed this development and announced that direct flights will also operate from Lahore to London. Days prior to the announcement of these new routes, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had expressed his intention for Pakistan's aviation sector to expand its network of direct flights to more destinations in the UK, Europe, and Canada.

These developments reflect a renewed focus on strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and the United States through enhanced cooperation in various sectors. Naqvi's call for early launch of direct flights underscores Pakistan's commitment to fostering closer diplomatic relations with its key ally.
