Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urges citizens to conserve fuel amid Middle East war disruption

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a gathering in southern Telangana state on Sunday, urging people to reduce their use of petrol and diesel due to supply disruptions caused by US-Israeli strikes on Iran. These actions led to the near-total blockade of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

LPG prices have risen in India as the country has not increased domestic fuel prices or rationed supplies for its citizens. Modi called on people to travel more by metro in cities with such lines and suggested carpooling if they must use a vehicle. He also emphasized the need for restrictions on fuel usage to save foreign currency spent on imports.

Modi further urged the resumption of energy-saving measures implemented during the Covid pandemic, recommending work-from-home arrangements, online conferences, and virtual meetings over in-person gatherings. He stressed that such steps were necessary given the high costs of petrol and diesel globally.
