Balochistan Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan has directed all relevant departments to accelerate emergency preparedness ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. His directive aims to ensure effective responses to heavy rainfall, urban flooding, and other emergencies such as forest fires and heatwaves.

A high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary was held in Quetta to review preparations for these potential disasters. The meeting emphasized developing a comprehensive emergency response plan to address risks associated with heavy rains, flash floods, and climate-related events.

Qadir Khan highlighted that protective and administrative measures must be completed promptly to minimize potential damage. He stressed the importance of proactive planning, effective coordination, and public awareness in reducing losses. Noting recent forest fire incidents in districts like Sherani, Musakhel, and Zhob, he instructed departments to strengthen preventive measures by establishing firebreaks and trenches.

Additionally, Qadir ordered the activation of a heatwave plan for Dera Ghazi Khan, Makran, and Nasirabad regions, where extreme temperatures are often severe. Hospitals in these areas have been directed to ensure the availability of medicines and medical facilities during heatwaves.

To enhance public awareness, Qadir called for intensified campaigns on climate change and recent heatwave alerts. He encouraged citizens to adopt precautionary measures and follow government advisories. He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities throughout the monsoon season.

During the meeting, Director General of Public Health Department (PDMA) presented a detailed briefing on preparedness measures. The session was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat, Secretary Forests Imran Gichki, Secretary Irrigation Sohail ur Rehman Baloch, and other relevant authorities.

Officials concluded that the integrated emergency plan represents a crucial step toward safeguarding communities against seasonal disasters and strengthening resilience in Balochistan.
