The federal government has extended its austerity drive and fuel conservation measures until June 13 amid uncertainty over the Middle East conflict.

A 50% reduction in fuel supply for official vehicles will remain in place during the extended period, with 60% of official vehicles kept off the roads.

The austerity plan was first introduced by PM Shehbaz on March 9, after the government hiked petrol and diesel prices by 20%, following oil supply disruption from the Strait of Hormuz.

The plan includes a four-day workweek for government offices, a 20% reduction in non-essential expenditure, and a ban on official foreign visits, except for obligatory trips.

Up to 50% of government employees will work from home on alternate days, with mandatory economy-class travel for officials and a shift to virtual meetings to cut costs.
