Saima Saleem, Counsellor on Human Rights for Pakistan's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, addressed the UNSC on May 20, 2026. She emphasized that thousands of Pakistani civilians have been killed in terrorist attacks, according to her statement.

Saleem these attacks are often financed and facilitated from Afghan territory, underlining the complex nature of the threats facing South Asia. "We condemn India's role in exporting terrorism across our region," she said, highlighting Pakistan's concerns about cross-border militant activities.

The envoy also addressed issues related to religious minorities within India, stating that they face persecution and discrimination. "India must address these human rights violations against its own citizens, particularly those belonging to minority communities," Saleem asserted.

She emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to counter terrorism, including regional cooperation and international support. Pakistan is advocating for stronger measures to combat extremism and ensure peace in South Asia.

Saleem concluded her remarks by reiterating that India's actions are not only harming its neighbors but also threatening global security. "We urge all parties involved to work towards resolving conflicts through dialogue and peaceful means," she said, calling for an end to the cycle of violence and suffering.
