Introducing Instants – a new way to share photos with Close Friends or mutual followers instantly. Photos disappear after viewing and can't be edited beforehand.
Today, we’re introducing Instants, a revolutionary feature that allows you to capture and share authentic moments with your Close Friends or mutual followers in the moment. Once shared, these photos vanish from view within 24 hours, ensuring every post remains fresh and spontaneous. You have complete control over who sees your instants – just select your Close Friends or mutual followers.
To get started, simply tap on the mini pile of photos at the bottom right corner of your Instagram inbox or open the Instants app. Snap a photo directly from there without needing to upload images from your phone’s gallery. Adding a caption is optional but you can’t make any further edits once shared. Next, decide who will see your instant – it could be just Close Friends or mutual followers.
When recipients view your instant, they can react with emojis and even send their own instants back. The photo then disappears from their inbox after 24 hours. This feature is available now as a global Instagram update and also as an app in select countries like iOS and Android.
For added convenience, Instants come with several features to make sharing easier: Archive: Your shared instants are saved in a private archive that you can access for up to one year from the top right corner of the Instants app. Recap to Stories: Compile your archived instants into a recap and share it on Instagram Stories. Simply tap "Create Recap" within your archive. No Screenshots: Friends won’t be able to screenshot or record these moments, ensuring privacy. Undo Feature: If you accidentally send an instant, you can quickly take it back by tapping the undo button before friends see it.
Built-in safety and privacy measures ensure that Instants are as secure as they are fun. Instagram’s existing controls like Block, Mute, and Restrict apply to Instants too. For teens, Instants is automatically integrated with Teen Accounts and Family Center, offering additional safeguards such as shared time limits and sleep mode restrictions.
