Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique praised his team's resilience after securing a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title, overcoming difficult matches.
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique celebrated with football advisor Luis Campos after their 2-0 victory over RC Lens on Wednesday, clinching the Ligue 1 championship. Despite PSG’s reputation for free-flowing attacking football, Enrique highlighted that his team also possesses the resilience needed to win tough matches when forced into a defensive stance.
Enrique praised PSG's determination, stating that the performance against Lens demonstrated their ability to adapt defensively as well as attack—a key trait essential for winning trophies. "Today, we spent more time defending than usual," Enrique said after the match. "But if you want to win titles, you have to be able to dominate both offensively and defensively. And today's team showed the mentality it needs to succeed."
The Parisians secured their title with a narrower margin compared to last season, when they finished six matches ahead of Lens. This campaign had been more challenging for Enrique’s side, who faced stiff competition throughout the season. "This is the sweetest and hardest title to win," the Spanish manager reflected. "It's the toughest of the three years we've had here, without a doubt. But it was also because Lens did an excellent job."
Enrique recalled certain moments from this challenging season, noting that Lens won several consecutive matches and posed significant resistance throughout the campaign. "And I remember certain moments from this season, the kind of matches they won and the number of consecutive wins they had," he added.
PSG will conclude their Ligue 1 season against Paris FC on Sunday before facing Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final later this month.
