The Senate has passed the Carriage by Air (Amendment) Bill, 2026 with amendments to the Carriage by Air Act, 2012. The National Fund for Culture Heritage (Amendment) Bill was referred to a standing committee.

The Senate recently approved the Carriage by Air (Amendment) Bill, 2026, amending the existing Carriage by Air Act of 2012. This decision came after Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry moved the bill on behalf of Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in the House. The presiding officer put the amendment bill to a vote, with 25 members voting in favor and nine against it. The Senate passed the bill through clause by clause reading.

Additionally, Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi introduced the National Fund for Culture Heritage (Amendment) Bill, 2026. He requested the House to pass this minor amendment that replaced "Federal Government" with "concerned division," as approved by the National Assembly standing committee. However, parliamentary leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Syed Ali Zafar suggested referring the bill to a relevant standing committee for further discussion.

In another development, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry also presented the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) (Repeal) Ordinance, 2026. This ordinance was laid before the Senate as required under Article 89(2) of the Constitution and was subsequently referred to a relevant committee for deliberation.

The National Fund for Culture Heritage (Amendment) Bill, 2026 is now pending with the standing committee for further review. The passage of these amendments aims to streamline processes and improve governance in both aviation and cultural heritage sectors.
