Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf met with a delegation from Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The meeting focused on reforms and improvement projects in Islamabad’s water sector.
The primary objective was to explore additional avenues of technical assistance for projects aimed at improving water supply in Islamabad.
JICA will prepare a comprehensive master plan for Islamabad’s water supply, sewerage and drainage systems.
The master plan will be designed to meet the capital’s future requirements through the year 2060, according to the JICA delegation.
The meeting was attended by CDA Member Administration, Director General Islamabad Water and other senior officials.
Chairman CDA said sustainable and long-term solutions would be pursued to ensure uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water to residents of Islamabad.
Sohail Ashraf requested JICA to extend technical assistance for the Shahdara Dam and Dotara Dam projects.
Construction activities at Shahdara Dam have already commenced, the Chairman CDA said.
The CDA is taking several measures to prevent water wastage, reduce line losses and promote efficient water use and conservation.
He said these initiatives would help ensure uninterrupted water supply and meet the growing needs of Islamabad.
Sohail Ashraf said JICA’s technical expertise would also be utilized for the Simly Water Filtration Plant and Sangjani Water Filtration Plant.
He said the purpose of these initiatives is to upgrade the city’s core water infrastructure.
The JICA delegation reaffirmed its readiness to provide full technical cooperation to help resolve Islamabad’s water-related challenges.
Later, the JICA delegation visited the Simly and Sangjani Water Filtration Plants.
