Anti-terrorism court declares 24 Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan leaders as proclaimed offenders for arson, vandalism, and attacks on police.
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore has declared 24 leaders of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), including party chief Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi, as proclaimed offenders. The decision comes after Badami Bagh Police filed an application seeking to declare these individuals absconders.
ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill conducted the hearing on Tuesday and issued permanent arrest warrants for the 24 absconding leaders. According to police, proclamation notices had already been published but the accused failed to appear. The suspects are believed to have gone into hiding to avoid arrest.
Among those declared as proclaimed offenders are Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi, Anas Hussain Rizvi, Mian Jameel Ahmad Sharqpuri, Mian Jalil Ahmad Sharqpuri, Allama Farooqul Hassan, and Mufti Abid Raza Qadri. Other party leaders and activists were also included in the list.
A case bearing FIR No. 1956/25 has been registered against these accused at Badami Bagh Police. The police stated that the accused were involved in inciting TLP workers to commit arson, vandalism, and violence against police officials.
The court's decision comes amid ongoing tensions between the government and the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) movement, which has been engaged in various acts of civil unrest and protests since its formation. The recent declaration is part of efforts by authorities to curb what they perceive as illegal activities carried out under the guise of political activism.
This development highlights the continued legal challenges faced by TLP members who continue to face prosecution for their alleged involvement in criminal activities, despite being banned from operating legally.
