15-member cybercrime gang nabbed by NCCIA for impersonating officials and hacking WhatsApp & mobile accounts.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) conducted a raid and arrested a 15-member gang involved in defrauding citizens through WhatsApp by impersonating government officials, as well as hacking mobile phones and WhatsApp accounts. The arrests were made following an extensive investigation into the fraudulent activities carried out by the group.
According to sources close to the case, the cybercriminals used sophisticated tactics to deceive victims into believing they were legitimate authorities, leading them to disclose sensitive information or make payments via fake government websites. Additionally, the gang exploited vulnerabilities in mobile devices and WhatsApp services to gain unauthorized access and steal personal data.
"This operation marks a significant step forward in combating online fraud," said NCCIA spokesperson Ali Khan. "We will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies across Pakistan to dismantle such criminal networks."
The arrested suspects are expected to face charges of cybercrime, impersonation, and hacking under the Information Technology Act 2006. The case highlights the growing threat posed by organized cybercriminal groups targeting both individuals and governmental institutions through digital platforms.
"This arrest sends a strong message that no one is immune from such fraudulent activities," Khan added. "We urge citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately."
The NCCIA has launched awareness campaigns to educate the public about safe online practices, including recognizing phishing attempts and securing personal information on social media and messaging apps.
With this latest development, authorities aim to disrupt the operations of these cybercriminal gangs and prevent further victimization in the future.
