Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin calls for accelerated global water action during a conference in Dushanbe, highlighting urgent need for international cooperation to address water challenges.
At the 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018–2028, held in Dushanbe from May 25 to May 28, Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin emphasized the critical importance of intensified global cooperation and accelerated implementation efforts to tackle mounting water challenges worldwide.
Speaking at the conference, Muhriddin underscored that water security is not just a national issue but a global concern. He highlighted the need for collaborative efforts among nations to ensure equitable access to clean water resources. The minister called on international partners to support Tajikistan’s initiatives and contribute to the development of sustainable water management practices.
The conference, which brings together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders from around the world, aims to discuss strategies and solutions to address water scarcity, pollution, and other related issues. Tajikistan, a country heavily dependent on river systems for its economy and livelihoods, has faced significant challenges due to climate change and environmental degradation.
Muhriddin stressed that while individual actions are important, collective efforts are essential to achieve meaningful progress in water sustainability. He called for the establishment of robust frameworks and partnerships to ensure that commitments made during the conference translate into tangible results on the ground.
The minister’s call for accelerated global action reflects the urgency of addressing water challenges, which have far-reaching implications for human health, economic development, and environmental stability. By fostering international cooperation, Tajikistan hopes to contribute to a more sustainable future for all nations involved in the global water community.
