Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) bans SIM card purchases from 12 am to 6 am to boost security and combat illegal sales.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has implemented a new measure to enhance security by restricting the sale of SIM cards during late-night hours. Effective immediately, all Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) across Pakistan are mandated to suspend SIM card purchases from midnight until 6:00 am daily. This decision aims to strengthen national security and prevent illegal issuance of SIM cards.
The PTA's move comes amid growing concerns about the proliferation of unauthorized SIMs that could be used for nefarious purposes, such as cybercrime or terrorism. By limiting sales during these hours, authorities hope to reduce opportunities for criminals to exploit gaps in the system.
"This measure is a proactive step towards safeguarding our digital infrastructure and ensuring public safety," said a spokesperson from PTA. "We are committed to working closely with CMOs to enforce this regulation effectively."
The restriction will be enforced through monitoring systems that track SIM card sales activity around the clock. Violators of this new policy may face legal consequences, including fines or suspension of their license.
"This is an important step in our ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and protect Pakistan's telecommunications network," added the spokesperson. "We urge all CMOs to comply with these guidelines to maintain public trust and prevent misuse."
The PTA has also advised consumers to be vigilant about unauthorized SIM card sales and report any suspicious activity immediately. By working together, authorities believe they can create a safer environment for everyone.
"This new regulation is just one of the many steps we are taking to ensure that Pakistan's digital landscape remains secure," concluded the spokesperson. "We will continue to monitor developments closely and take necessary actions to address emerging threats."
With this restriction in place, PTA aims to reduce vulnerabilities and enhance overall security measures within the telecommunications sector.
