President Asif Ali Zardari recently conferred the prestigious Sitara-e-Shujaat upon the family of Shaheed Liaqat Ali, a former Pakistan Railways employee who tragically lost his life while thwarting a suicide attack in Attock on May 13, 2026. The ceremony was held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, recognizing outstanding services across various fields.

The investiture ceremony honored numerous personalities with civil awards for their exceptional contributions to health, education, literature, journalism, public service, research, diplomacy, sports, and economy. First Lady Aseefa Bhutto and senior officials were present alongside federal ministers, Senate chairman, parliamentarians, members of the civil society, diplomats, media representatives, and a large number of people.

Among those honored with Sitara-e-Shujaat was Shaheed Liaqat Ali's family for his selfless act. Additionally, other recipients included Shahid Khan Afridi, Awais Leghari, and several others in various categories such as Nishan-e-Imtiaz (posthumously), Hilal-e-Imtiaz, and Sitara-e-Pakistan.

The ceremony also saw the conferral of Nishan-e-Imtiaz posthumously to late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan and Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui for their outstanding services to the nation. Other notable awards included Hilal-e-Imtiaz for Shahid Khan Afridi, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Muhammad Ali, Asghar Nadeem Syed, late Senator Taj Haider, Ehtesham ul Haq, Azeez uddin, and Bahrain's diplomat Mohammad Ebrahim Mohammad Abdul Qadir.

The Sitara-e-Shujaat was awarded to Sepoy Muhammad Yousaf Shaheed (posthumously), Constable Muhammad Shehryar Shaheed (posthumously), Faisal Ismail Shaheed (posthumously), Abdul Wakeel Shaheed (posthumously), Fazal Manan Shaheed (posthumously), ASI Noor Hakeem Shaheed (posthumously), and Zahidullah Shaheed (posthumously). Sitara-e-Imtiaz was bestowed upon Secretary Interior Captain (retd) Muhammad Agha, Dr Muhammad Fakhar-e-Alam, Nabeel Munir, Iftikhar Amjad, Lt (retd) Sohail Ashraf, and other distinguished individuals.

The Pride of Performance award went to Rashid Waheed Khawaja and Zahid Ahmed. Sitara-e-Khidmat was awarded to Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, while Tamgha-i-Shujaat was given to Shahid Hussain. Those honored with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz included Sindh IG Javaid Akhtar Odhoo, Nadir Shafee Dar, Dr Muhammad Shahbaz Chaudhry, and other notable figures.

The event underscored the government's commitment to recognizing those who have made significant contributions in various sectors of society.
