Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives for the rehabilitation of the Faisalabad Motorway, according to a Senate statement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that immediate action be taken to rehabilitate the Faisalabad Motorway, as informed by the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chauhdry, during a Senate meeting on Tuesday. In response to a calling attention notice raised by Senator Abid Sher Ali regarding extensive cracks and maintenance needs along the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad section of the motorway, the minister confirmed that the PM has instructed for its transformation into a four- to six-lane road.
Dr. Fazal Chauhdry highlighted the credit for laying the network of motorways in the country should go to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government. Additionally, he mentioned another directive from the Prime Minister concerning the rehabilitation and compensation funds for displaced residents of South Waziristan.
The minister further elaborated that while the Federal Government provided logistical support for the disbursement process, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has yet to provide details regarding the disbursed funds. This information was given in response to a calling attention notice raised by Senator Dost Muhammad Khan concerning the non-disbursement of rehabilitation and compensation funds for displaced residents who lost their homes and livelihoods during security operations in 2008 and 2009.
The minister also noted that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government is responsible for providing details on the disbursed funds, emphasizing the Federal Government's role was limited to logistical support.
