Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique reviews a new digital patient referral system at KEMU, with plans for phased expansion throughout the province.
Punjab's health sector is set to undergo a significant transformation as Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique recently chaired a meeting at King Edward Medical University (KEMU) to review and expand a newly developed digital patient referral system. The initiative aims to improve healthcare delivery by streamlining the process of transferring patients between different hospitals and medical facilities within Punjab.
During the meeting, Minister Rafique highlighted the importance of modernizing healthcare services in the province. He emphasized that the digital referral system would not only enhance efficiency but also ensure better coordination among healthcare providers. "The primary goal is to provide seamless care for our citizens by leveraging technology," stated Rafique.
The current phase of the project focuses on evaluating the performance and effectiveness of the digital referral system at KEMU. The system allows for real-time tracking of patient referrals, reducing wait times and ensuring that patients receive timely treatment. According to officials present at the meeting, the initial results have been promising, with a noticeable improvement in service delivery.
Plans are underway to roll out this technology across Punjab in phases. The first phase will cover major hospitals within the province, followed by gradual expansion to smaller healthcare facilities. "We aim to make this system accessible and beneficial for all citizens of Punjab," said Rafique. He the phased approach would allow for continuous assessment and improvement of the digital referral process.
The minister also stressed on the need for collaboration between various stakeholders, including hospitals, clinics, and primary care providers, to ensure a smooth implementation of the new system. "Our focus is on creating a unified healthcare network where information flows freely," he stated.
This expansion of the digital patient referral system in Punjab marks a significant step towards modernizing healthcare services and improving access to quality medical care for the province's residents. As the initiative progresses, it is expected to bring about substantial improvements in patient outcomes and overall healthcare efficiency.
