Government hikes kerosene price to Rs313.44 per litre, light diesel to Rs275.54 per litre amid rising global energy costs.

The government has increased the prices of petroleum products, raising the rates of kerosene oil, light diesel, and jet fuel by more than Re1 per litre effective immediately, as announced in an official notification issued on Saturday. The latest adjustment came amidst continued fluctuations in global oil markets and escalating energy expenses across the globe.

According to the updated notification, the price of kerosene oil has been raised by Rs1.71 per litre, bringing it to a new rate of Rs313.44 per litre from its previous level of Rs311.73. This marks a significant hike in the cost of this essential fuel.

Similarly, light diesel fuel prices have also seen an increase, with the price rising by Rs1.62 per litre. Consequently, light diesel will now be sold at Rs275.54 per litre, up from the previous rate of Rs273.92.

Moreover, the cost of jet fuel used in aircraft has been raised by Rs2.10 per litre. Under these revised rates, jet fuel will now cost Rs332.32 per litre compared to its earlier price of Rs330.22 per litre.

Officials confirmed that all these revised fuel prices have come into effect immediately. The hike in prices is attributed to the ongoing volatility in international oil markets and a broader increase in global energy costs, which are impacting various sectors including transportation and industry.

With these adjustments, citizens will be required to bear higher expenses for their daily needs of kerosene, light diesel, and jet fuel. The government's decision reflects its efforts to manage rising energy prices while ensuring that essential goods remain affordable.
