Chrystal Gorman, former owner of a Salem-Keizer, Oregon, Bricks and Minifigs franchise, details her legal battle with the company over a valuable Star Wars Lego collection.
Chrystal Gorman, the former owner of a Bricks and Minifigs franchise in Salem-Keizer, Oregon, has spoken publicly about her ongoing legal dispute with the company. In a TikTok video posted on May 26, Gorman shared her side of the story, alleging that the business was "illegally seized by corporate" more than a year ago.
Gorman and her husband had invested their life savings into the store, creating what they described as "a warm and fun and inclusive environment" for customers. However, she claims they were removed from the premises under threat of police action without notice or compensation. The situation has garnered significant attention following investigative videos by YouTuber Reckless Ben, which focused on a rare Star Wars Lego collection owned by Bryan Mansell and his family.
According to Gorman, the collection had been consigned at her store before ownership changes took place. She she and her husband had spent over a year attempting to settle the matter with the company while also seeking compensation for Mansell. "They have thus far shown no indication to act in good faith whatsoever," she said.
The dispute has become increasingly public, with documents referencing a franchise agreement from BAM Franchising, Inc., which outlines that Bricks and Minifigs franchisees may offer consignment services alongside approved Lego-related retail operations and events. Despite these agreements, Gorman claims the company has not acted in good faith.
Legal fees have already exceeded $30,000, and a lawsuit has been filed against the company. Gorman urged supporters to refrain from harassing current employees and started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover "the overwhelming legal costs required to fight this battle."
The case highlights the complexities and challenges faced by franchise owners when dealing with corporate policies and disputes over valuable assets within their stores.
