US Congressional Delegation Meets with COAS and Interior Minister
A delegation of US congressmen, which included Jack Bergman, Thomas Souzzi, and Jonathan Jackson, engaged in discussions with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, focusing on matters of mutual interest, particularly regional security and defence collaboration.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), both parties emphasized the significance of consistent interaction built on mutual respect, shared principles, and aligned strategic goals.
The visiting US lawmakers lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces for their essential role in countering terrorism and recognized Pakistan’s continued efforts towards regional peace and stability.
The congressmen also conveyed their profound appreciation for Pakistan’s resilience and the strategic potential of its populace.
The US congressional delegation, while emphasizing their respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty, expressed a strong dedication to promoting extensive bilateral cooperation, notably in security, trade, investment, and economic advancement.
COAS Gen Munir expressed gratitude to the delegation for their visit and reaffirmed Pakistan’s aspiration to further strengthen and broaden its longstanding alliance with the US in a way that benefits both nations and respects their respective national interests.
During the meeting, memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed to promote training collaboration within the field of information technology, as stated in the release.
Earlier, the congressional delegation participated in a significant meeting with Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi in the federal capital.
During the meeting, Naqvi highlighted the country’s contribution to the fight against terrorism, affirming that “Pakistan stands as a barrier between terrorism and the rest of the world.”
Both sides also exchanged perspectives on enhancing collaboration in the realms of economy, trade, and investment. They also discussed security, counterterrorism measures, and border security.
Naqvi characterized terrorism as a “global challenge” and stressed the importance of full cooperation from the international community towards Pakistan.
He stated that “Intelligence and technology sharing in the domain of counter-terrorism is of utmost importance.”
The minister further noted that Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in the fight against terrorism are unparalleled globally, adding that the US congressmen’s visit would be vital in underscoring Pakistan’s exceptional role in combating terrorism.
The interior minister welcomed the US delegation’s involvement in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025, assuring that the government would ensure every possible convenience and comprehensive protection to investors.
Naqvi emphasized that robust and enduring relations with the US are a priority in Pakistan’s foreign policy, and he welcomed the holding of the Pakistan Caucus in the US on April 30.
The US congressmen delegation emphasized the need to highlight Pakistan’s role in the war against terrorism and acknowledged the talent and diligence of the Pakistani community residing in the US.
