US Restricts Government Personnel Visits to Karachi Hotels
Following a reported threat, the United States has temporarily curtailed visits by its government personnel to upscale hotels located in Karachi, according to an official statement from the State Department.
The department’s security alert, disseminated on Friday, stated, “The US Consulate General in Karachi has received information regarding a potential threat targeting high-end hotels within the city.”
The alert further mentioned that “The US Consulate General in Karachi is enforcing a temporary restriction on visits by official US government personnel to these specific hotels.”
The State Department clarified that it occasionally designates certain areas in foreign nations as off-limits to official US government staff. These locations can include tourist destinations, hotels, marketplaces, shopping centers, and dining establishments, and such restrictions are implemented in response to credible threats.
The security advisory encourages individuals to exercise caution by avoiding crowded areas, maintaining a discreet presence, and remaining vigilant in locations popular with tourists and Westerners.
Currently, the State Department has a travel advisory in effect for Pakistan, suggesting that US citizens should carefully consider travel to the country due to the existing risks of terrorism and potential armed conflicts.
Similarly, the British foreign ministry issued an advisory on Friday, recommending against all non-essential travel to specific regions of Pakistan.
