US congressmen have described their recent visit to Pakistan as “highly successful and significant for the future,” marking a positive step for the mineral-rich country.
Congressman Jack Bergman, reflecting on his attendance at the Pakistan Mineral Investment Forum 25 (PMIF25) the previous week, underscored the critical importance of the relationship between Pakistan and the United States. He noted that the two nations are engaged in collaborative efforts across diverse sectors, promoting a spirit of partnership, with minerals being a vital component of this cooperation.
Congressman Thomas Suozzi commented on the need to establish Pakistan-US relations on a firm footing. He conveyed optimism that both nations will pursue collaborative ventures to bolster economic security and stimulate economic activities.
Congressman Jonathan Jackson, also a member of the US delegation, expressed his observations of faith, unity, and discipline during his time in Pakistan.
He voiced his belief in the existence of a significant opportunity to deepen the bond between the two countries, built on a foundation of shared history and mutual trust. Furthermore, he conveyed his optimism about Pakistan’s promising prospects.
The US congressional delegation, led by Congressman Bergman, recently engaged with several key figures in Pakistan, holding discussions on various subjects of mutual interest.
During their visit, the delegation met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, acknowledging the crucial role of Pakistan’s armed forces in the fight against terrorism.
The congressmen also recognized Pakistan’s continued efforts towards promoting peace and stability in the region.
The discussions encompassed a wide array of issues of mutual concern, with a particular focus on regional security dynamics and defence cooperation strategies.
According to a statement released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained engagement, founded on mutual respect, shared values, and aligned strategic objectives.
The US congressmen conveyed their appreciation for Pakistan’s resilience and the potential of its people.
Earlier, the delegation held meetings with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, where they lauded Pakistan’s significant role and sacrifices in the ongoing war against terrorism.
Both sides engaged in discussions on enhancing cooperation across various domains, including economy, trade, and investment. Security matters, counterterrorism efforts, and border security were also addressed during these meetings.
Ahsan Iqbal advocated for a new, development-oriented approach in Pakistan-US relations, emphasizing education, energy, climate change, infrastructure, and IT. He also acknowledged the transformative impact of US higher education through initiatives like the Fulbright Scholarship.
The Federal Minister for Planning and Development welcomed the resumption of congressional exchanges with Pakistan and expressed gratitude for the US initiative to host a symposium on Pakistan at the Library of Congress on April 30.
