Sun Yingsha Secures World Title in Thrilling Seven-Game Showdown
DOHA: In a captivating final held in Doha on Sunday, Sun Yingsha, the top-ranked player globally, triumphed over Wang Manyu to maintain her status as world champion, securing the coveted gold medal with a narrow 4–3 victory.
Wang, a former champion who previously defeated Sun in the 2021 final, demonstrated resilience by recovering from a two-game deficit and defending against four championship points, extending the match to its ultimate limit.
Sun, aged 24, established an early advantage by clinching the first two games with scores of 11–6 and 12–10. However, Wang retaliated strongly, dominating the subsequent two games and nearing victory in the fifth. Undeterred, Sun saved a critical game point and seized the game with a score of 12–10.
During the sixth game, Sun surged ahead with a 10–6 lead, positioning herself just one point away from triumph. Nevertheless, Wang maintained composure, securing the next three crucial points.
The reigning champion pressed forward with a powerful forehand shot that Wang barely managed to reach. The ball ascended sharply and grazed the edge of the table, leveling the score at 10–10.
Wang seized control of the momentum, ultimately claiming the sixth game with a score of 13–11 and establishing an initial 3–0 lead in the decisive seventh game.
Following her hard-fought victory, Sun reflected on her intense rivalry with Wang, acknowledging their profound familiarity with each other’s playing styles.

She further shared her emotional experience throughout the match, expressing appreciation for her unwavering determination.
