ICC Insists on Governance Overhaul for USA Cricket
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly on the verge of taking strong action against USA Cricket (USAC) as the deadline approaches for a 12-month governance notice, which was initially issued in July of the previous year, according to international reports.
Reports suggest that the ICC is seriously contemplating suspending the USA board due to persistent problems regarding its framework and leadership.
The original notice was given after the ICC discovered notable shortcomings in USAC’s internal operations, pointing to a lack of clear communication, functional inefficiencies, and inadequate governance.
To remedy the situation, the ICC formed a normalisation committee with the goal of guiding USAC toward administrative stability and regulatory compliance.
However, sources within the ICC indicate that advancement over the past year has been minimal.
The normalisation committee has encountered continuous opposition from certain members of the USAC board, along with inefficient leadership, thereby impeding attempts at reform.
According to various sources, an ICC official, remaining anonymous, termed the circumstances as untenable, stating, “We’ve allowed considerable time and resources. The absence of improvement is no longer justifiable.”
Earlier this month, a delegation from the ICC visited Los Angeles for crucial discussions with representatives from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and individuals from the normalisation committee.
The purpose of the visit was to urgently assess whether any significant changes had been made.
Attendees reported that the ICC communicated that governance reform is essential, particularly as cricket gears up for its return to the Olympics at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
While a definitive decision is pending, sources also indicate that ICC officials have cautioned that failure to enact crucial leadership reforms prior to the ICC’s Annual Conference in July could lead to suspension.
