Quad Calls for Justice in Pahalgam Attack
The Quad, comprising the United States, India, Japan, and Australia, has demanded that those responsible for the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), face swift justice.
The assault on April 22nd led to intense clashes between Pakistan and India, escalating their long-standing conflict. India attributed the attack to Pakistan, but provided no substantiating evidence.
Pakistan refuted the allegations and advocated for an impartial inquiry into the incident.
A joint statement was released by the foreign ministers of the Quad, who convened in Washington. The statement refrained from specifically naming or accusing Pakistan.
“The Quad strongly condemns all forms of terrorism and violent extremism, including cross-border terrorism,” the ministers stated.
They urged all United Nations members to actively collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure that the individuals who perpetrated, organized, and financed this reprehensible act are brought to justice without delay.
Last month, military exchanges occurred between Pakistan and India, precipitated by the Pahalgam attack in IIOJK in April.
Pakistan’s military initiated a substantial retaliatory operation, designated “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos”, targeting various Indian military sites across multiple regions in response to Indian aggression.
Pakistan claimed to have shot down six Indian fighter aircraft, including three Rafales, along with numerous drones. A ceasefire, mediated by the U.S. and announced initially by then US President Donald Trump on social media, ended the conflict on May 10th after approximately 87 hours. While Washington asserted the ceasefire resulted from its intervention and warnings regarding trade discussions, India presented a different account. Pakistan has lauded Trump’s efforts and nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his contribution to de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India.
