PSG Clinches Champions League Title with Decisive Victory Over Inter Milan
MUNICH: In a commanding performance, Paris St Germain secured their first-ever European Cup title, overwhelming Inter Milan with a 5-0 victory in the Champions League final on Saturday. Desire Doue’s two goals were instrumental in PSG’s triumph.
After previously falling short against Bayern Munich in the 2020 final, Luis Enrique’s PSG, after a shaky start during the league phase, finally captured the coveted trophy desired by their Qatari owners.
PSG showcased superior skill, leaving the more seasoned Inter squad unable to respond. Achraf Hakimi, formerly an Inter defender, and Doue scored within the first 20 minutes, setting the tone for the match.
The 19-year-old Doue added another goal in the 63rd minute, followed by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ten minutes later. Substitute Senny Mayulu sealed the victory with a goal three minutes before the end, marking the largest margin of victory in a Champions League final.
Before the match started, Inter fans sang their anthem, but on the field, their team was outplayed as PSG dominated the game and earned a well-deserved victory.
PSG controlled the game from the outset, maintaining possession with precise passing. The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when Vitinha delivered a pass to Doue in the penalty area.
Despite Inter defenders’ offside appeals, Federico Dimarco kept the PSG player onside. Doue calmly passed the ball across the goal, allowing Hakimi to score an easy goal.
The second goal occurred eight minutes later during a quick PSG counter-attack. Ousmane Dembele advanced on the left wing before sending a precise pass to Doue, who controlled the ball and scored with a shot that deflected off Dimarco, deceiving goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
PSG essentially secured the win when Vitinha passed the ball to Doue in the area, and the 19-year-old calmly placed the ball past Sommer for the third goal.
Inter was visibly shaken, and the situation worsened when Dembele’s pass found Kvaratskhelia, who then beat Sommer, prompting celebration from the PSG bench, including Luis Enrique.
PSG added a fifth goal when Mayulu scored from close range after receiving a pass from substitute Bradley Barcola. The final whistle was met with loud cheers from the enthusiastic French supporters.
