Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has revealed that direct flights from Lahore to Baku will commence on April 20. This initiative is part of the airline’s strategy to broaden its international network and stimulate tourism.
PIA management stated that the airline will run two flights weekly on this new route, with departures scheduled for every Sunday and Wednesday.
To inaugurate the launch, special events are planned in various cities throughout Pakistan. These gatherings aim to connect with travel agents and tour operators.
During these events, PIA will share details about forthcoming international routes.
PIA officials have underscored the importance of travel agents in ensuring the success of the Baku route.
According to the statement, the airline aims to establish a viable commercial connection, promoting tourism and trade between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
This announcement arrives during a period of increased optimism for the national carrier.
Last week, the Prime Minister acknowledged PIA’s return to profitability after two decades, describing it as a significant achievement for the organisation.
He also expressed appreciation for the Aviation Minister and his team’s leadership.
PIA’s official report indicates that the Board of Directors has sanctioned the financial results for 2024, highlighting an operational profit of Rs3.9 billion and a net profit of Rs2.26 billion, marking the airline’s first profit since.
