Pakistan has raised serious concerns at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) over the potential closure of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), warning that such a move would severely impact humanitarian efforts in Gaza and undermine prospects for peace.
Israel’s Actions Condemned
Speaking at the UNSC session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, strongly criticized Israel’s continued restrictions on UNRWA. He described Israel’s actions as a direct affront to the international community, stressing that blocking UNRWA’s operations would cripple Gaza’s reconstruction efforts and eliminate any hopes for a peaceful political transition.
UNRWA: A Lifeline for Millions
Ambassador Munir Akram reaffirmed that UNRWA serves as a beacon of hope for millions of Palestinian refugees, providing essential aid, healthcare, and education. He emphasized that as a member state of the UN, Israel is obligated to facilitate, not obstruct, humanitarian missions.
A Call for Immediate Action
The Pakistani envoy stressed that allowing UNRWA’s dismantling would endanger ceasefire agreements and worsen the humanitarian crisis. He urged the international community to ensure:
✅ The survival and continuity of UNRWA’s operations
✅ A complete ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza
✅ Immediate humanitarian assistance to suffering Palestinians
Pakistan’s Unwavering Support for Palestine
Reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to Palestine, Ambassador Munir Akram assured that Pakistan stands in full solidarity with UNRWA’s mission and the Palestinian people in their struggle for peace, justice, and self-determination.
