Nissan to Cease Vehicle Production at Wuhan Plant

Nissan Motor intends to discontinue vehicle manufacturing at its Wuhan facility in China during the current fiscal year, which concludes on March 31, 2026. This information was disclosed by the Yomiuri newspaper, citing unnamed sources.

The decision follows a decline in the plant’s operational rate. The Wuhan plant, possessing a capacity of 300,000 vehicles and responsible for producing the Ariya electric vehicle and X-Trail SUV, experienced operational rates falling below 10% due to intense competition from domestic Chinese automakers, according to the Yomiuri report.

Nissan has refrained from commenting on the report concerning the Wuhan plant, which it has leased from Dongfeng Motor since 2022.

On Thursday, the Japanese automaker projected a record net deficit ranging from 700 billion yen to 750 billion yen (equivalent to $4.87 billion to $5.22 billion) for the fiscal year concluding in March. This forecast is attributed to impairment charges.
