Mountaineer Nims Purja Achieves Historic 50th Summit

Nirmal “Nims” Purja MBE, the distinguished Nepalese mountaineer celebrated as Nimsdai, has made mountaineering history by achieving 50 successful climbs of peaks surpassing 8,000 meters.

Purja achieved his 50th peak on Pakistan’s challenging Nanga Parbat (8,126m), recognized as one of the globe’s most perilous mountains.

Following his climb, he stated, “This ranks as the most hazardous ascent I’ve undertaken, marked by extreme winds, solid ice, and falling rocks.”

Among his 50 ascents, an impressive 22 were completed without using supplemental oxygen, marking a new global benchmark.

Purja dedicated this accomplishment to the enduring 200-year relationship between Nepal and the United Kingdom, carrying a flag that symbolized his service within the Gurkhas and the UK Special Forces.

The renowned mountaineer initially garnered worldwide recognition through his Project Possible in 2019. During this project, he impressively scaled all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in merely six months and six days. This achievement was subsequently documented in the Netflix film titled 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible.

In 2021, he contributed to the first-ever winter ascent of K2, reaching the summit without oxygen.

Beyond climbing, Purja founded the Nimsdai Foundation to promote educational opportunities, support environmental efforts, and assist mountain communities.

Currently, he is pursuing his ambitious “Hat-Trick Challenge,” aiming to ascend all fourteen 8,000-meter peaks and the Seven Summits for a third instance. Funds raised will benefit the initiatives of his foundation.
