INNOCSR Launches Sustainable Brick Factory in Thatta

INNOCSR, a South Korean pioneer in sustainable construction technologies, has officially opened a Good Brick manufacturing facility in Thatta, near Karachi, Pakistan. This factory represents a key advancement in INNOCSR’s goal of revolutionizing South Asia’s construction industry through the creation of environmentally friendly, non-fired bricks.

The Good Bricks Thatta plant is financially backed by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) and receives support from various organizations, including UNIDO, the European Union, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Reserve Carbon, Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF), HANDS Pakistan, and NED University of Engineering & Technology in Karachi.

This collaborative undertaking highlights the increasing dedication from both international and local participants to promote sustainable construction methods in Pakistan.

The inauguration event welcomed representatives from the EU, UNIDO, KOTRA, SPHF, and HANDS, alongside local academics and community leaders. Attendees were briefed on the Good Brick technology and taken on a tour of the factory, which featured a demonstration of the eco-friendly brick production process.

Good Bricks Factory Inauguration

Key stakeholders and local partners gathered for the inauguration of the Good Bricks factory in Thatta.

“We are excited to broaden our presence in South Asia and introduce an environmentally responsible substitute for conventional brick production. This facility in Thatta marks a considerable advancement toward our vision of establishing cleaner, more durable, and more sustainable construction practices,” stated Sam Yoonsuk Lee, CEO of InnoCSR.

The Good Bricks Thatta factory will commence its operations by providing bricks to SPHF’s beneficiaries for the restoration of flood-affected structures in Sindh province, including residential buildings and a community center. This project is designed to aid in post-disaster recovery and serve as a blueprint for upcoming sustainable building initiatives throughout Pakistan.

“The Sindh Government, via SPHF, is spearheading the construction of 2.1 million residences, making it the largest housing effort globally. As part of its commitment to sustainability, the Government is advocating eco-friendly technologies and is presently working with Good Bricks to test green construction solutions,” added Khalid Mehmood Shaikh, CEO of SPHF.

The Good Bricks System employs a unique soil stabilizer and eliminates the need for coal or burning, which greatly lowers carbon emissions and airborne pollutants.

This expansion is further supported by InnoCSR’s strategic investment from ADB Ventures, which assists the company in scaling up its clean brick manufacturing activities throughout South Asia.
