NBA All-Star Game to Feature USA vs. World Format
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced on Wednesday the return of a “USA versus the World” format for next year’s NBA All-Star Game.
Under this revised format, one team will exclusively consist of American players, while the opposing team will be made up of international players from around the globe.
Silver also mentioned that NBC will broadcast the All-Star Game and has asked for input on the optimal timing to maximize audience engagement.
“Next year, as a component of our updated media agreement, the All-Star Game is returning to NBC, which happens to coincide with the Winter Olympics,” stated Silver.
The game will be broadcast on NBC, preceded by Winter Olympic events and followed by further Olympic coverage. Notably, the game will be played in the afternoon rather than the evening.
“What better opportunity to showcase a USA versus the World matchup?” Silver remarked.
Silver mentioned that the precise format is still being evaluated, but the NBA is drawing inspiration from the NHL’s successful model.
“The exact format is still under consideration,” Silver clarified. “We have been closely observing the NHL’s approach, which proved to be highly successful.”
