Premier League Clubs Eye Barcelona Goalkeeper Ter Stegen
Several Premier League teams, including Manchester United and Newcastle United, have reportedly contacted Barcelona to inquire about the availability of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the upcoming January transfer window.
The German goalkeeper has been out of action since July due to a back injury but is anticipated to make a complete recovery before December. His return coincides with growing uncertainty regarding his position at Barcelona.
Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation remains in flux under their new coach, while Newcastle seeks additional experienced goalkeepers to support their primary option. Both clubs consider the 33-year-old to be a reliable player with leadership qualities.
At Barcelona, Joan Garcia, who was brought in as the team’s new first-choice goalkeeper, is currently injured but expected to return within a month. In Garcia’s absence, Wojciech Szczesny has been the starting goalkeeper.
Ter Stegen’s contract with Barcelona is valid until 2028. The goalkeeper is aware that limited playing time could negatively impact his chances of being selected for Germany’s World Cup squad.
Sources suggest there is significant interest in the goalkeeper from various European clubs. Manchester United, Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur, and AS Monaco are all closely monitoring his situation. Many of these clubs would prefer to secure him on loan in January, potentially with the option to make the deal permanent.
Monaco previously showed interest in Ter Stegen during the summer but was unsuccessful. Barcelona is unlikely to consider any offers unless the player himself expresses a desire to leave.
