Luis Diaz Joins Bayern Munich on Four-Year Deal

Bayern Munich has officially announced the acquisition of Colombian winger Luis Diaz from Liverpool. The German club revealed the signing on Wednesday.

While the financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, British media sources estimate the transfer to be worth approximately 75 million euros ($86.67 million).

Diaz has committed to a four-year contract with the Bundesliga champions. He is the third addition this summer, following Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim’s midfielder Tom Bischof.

Díaz, whose previous contract with Liverpool was set to expire in June 2027, initially joined the team from Porto in January 2022 for about €50 million.

He became an essential component of the Anfield squad. His recent season with Liverpool was particularly fruitful, with 13 goals and seven assists in 36 appearances. He was instrumental in Liverpool’s title-winning performance, where they secured a significant lead.

Luis Diaz shared a farewell message to Liverpool on Instagram, expressing his pride in their collective achievements and honoring the late Diogo Jota.

“Three and a half years that I will always treasure. I came with dreams, and I leave proud of our accomplishments,” Diaz stated on Instagram.

“I’ve met fantastic individuals, wonderful teammates, supportive coaches, and incredible fans. Liverpool is a special team, and I will cherish everyone…

“It would have been a perfect farewell if we hadn’t tragically lost one of our own,” Diaz added, referencing former teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident recently.

“I carry everyone in my heart, especially Diogo. I will never forget him. We will never forget him. Thank you. YNWA.”

Díaz recorded 41 goals and 23 assists in his Liverpool career across 148 appearances.

Diaz also played a role in Liverpool’s FA Cup victory in 2022 and League Cup wins in 2022 and 2024.

He primarily played as a left winger for Liverpool but is also capable as a striker.

Initially, Diaz aimed to join Barcelona, and the Catalan team was seriously interested, intending to enhance their attack with Lamine Yamal and Raphina.

However, reports indicate that Liverpool declined Barcelona’s offer of around £65m for Diaz, opting to pursue other options.

Bayern captured their 34th Bundesliga title but were eliminated in the last 16 of the German Cup and the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Diaz could be a valuable attacking resource for Munich, especially with Jamal Musiala potentially sidelined due to a leg injury sustained at the Club World Cup.
