Japan Approves Funding for Smart Water Meters in Faisalabad
The Japanese government has sanctioned JPY 510 million (equivalent to $3.5 million) for an Economic and Social Development Program. This initiative aims to supply smart water meters to enhance the water distribution system in Faisalabad.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the project involves the installation of approximately 8,000 smart water meters across Faisalabad. This upgrade is expected to significantly improve water usage efficiency, promote better demand management, conserve vital water resources, and ensure the long-term financial stability of the Water and Sanitation Agency Faisalabad.
The grant is in line with the government’s vision for enhanced urban governance and environmental sustainability, with hopes that it will act as a model for similar projects in other cities.
The exchange of official documents was conducted between Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Akamatsu Shuichi, Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, representing their respective governments.
Dr. Niaz expressed gratitude to Japan for its valuable assistance and pledged full support to ensure the successful execution of the project, fostering stronger cooperation between the two nations. Shuichi reaffirmed his government’s dedication to collaborating closely with Pakistan to further strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation.
