International Umpire Bismillah Jan Shinwari Passes Away

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Tuesday the passing of international umpire Bismillah Jan Shinwari at the age of 41. Shinwari, a well-respected figure in the global cricket fraternity, had been suffering from an illness.

Shinwari, a member of the ICC International Panel of Umpires, officiated in 25 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 21 T20 Internationals (T20Is) throughout his career.

He began his international umpiring journey in December 2017, overseeing an ODI match between Afghanistan and Ireland held in Sharjah.

In a formal statement, the ACB conveyed its profound grief regarding the demise of Bismillah Jan Shinwari.

“The leadership, staff, and the whole AfghanAtalan family of ACB are deeply saddened by the death of Bismillah Jan Shinwari, who was a respected member of Afghanistan’s top umpiring panel. It is with great sorrow that we announce Mr. Shinwari’s passing due to illness.”

“Bismillah Jan was a dedicated contributor to Afghan cricket.”

“The Afghanistan Cricket Board offers its sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends, and the entire Afghan cricket community.”

The Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah, voiced his deep sadness regarding the demise of Bismillah Jan Shinwari and expressed heartfelt condolences to his family.

“His contributions to cricket were significant, and the cricket community will greatly miss him. We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our condolences to his family and relatives,” he stated.
