Martinez Joins Al-Nassr as Free Agent from Barcelona
Former Barcelona defender Inigo Martinez has articulated his rationale for choosing to join Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, according to recent reports.
Martinez became a member of Al-Nassr after concluding his contract with the Catalan club and joining as a free agent.
Martinez conveyed that while he was content with his earnings at Barcelona, he found it challenging to decline the substantial offer from the Saudi Pro League club.
“Opportunities of this nature are scarce, making it difficult to refuse. Flick was understanding, and our conversation was pleasant,” Martinez stated.
“It wasn’t about insufficient earnings; my Barcelona salary was considerable. We were at ease, and my family was content. This decision was difficult, and such proposals are unexpected. My departure was charged with emotion and affected me deeply.”
He further elaborated on the emotional weight of his departure.
“The farewell was deeply moving. I maintained composure, drawing on my inner strength, but I was affected, and I saw the impact on those around me,” he added.
“My beginning was outstanding, marked by unwavering support. Initial injuries posed challenges, but I rebounded strongly the following year, quickly earning affection. It’s about the quality of time, not just the duration.”
Inigo Martinez’s move to Al-Nassr provides Barcelona with financial relief, freeing up €14 million in wages. However, they must still adhere to La Liga’s salary limits.
Failure to comply could impede the registration of new players, including Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford.
