Tottenham’s Pursuit of Savinho Before Transfer Deadline

Reports from international media on Friday indicate that while Pep Guardiola wishes for Savinho to remain with Manchester City, the ultimate decision rests with the Brazilian winger himself.

According to sources in the British media, Tottenham Hotspur has made an approach to Manchester City regarding Savinho, expressing their desire to finalize the agreement before the transfer window closes.

Guardiola has communicated his preference to retain the services of the 21-year-old at City. Nonetheless, the club typically allows players to determine their own future.

The City manager stated that it is reasonable for Tottenham, or any other club, to express interest in a player, while also affirming his desire to keep the Brazilian on the team.

Guardiola mentioned during a news conference on Friday, “If Tottenham, or any other club, is interested in a player, the appropriate action is to contact the club directly, mirroring our own procedures.”

“My current focus is on ensuring Savinho remains with us for the duration of the season, and ideally for many years to come.

“Given his age of 21 and his considerable potential, along with the prospect of significant playing time, he needs to refine his decision-making in crucial moments, but he is an exceptional player.”

“Ultimately, the player’s wishes take precedence, followed by the need for an agreement with the club. Without such an agreement, the player will remain here.”

Savinho is currently sidelined with an injury and will be absent from Pep Guardiola’s squad for their Premier League opener against Wolves on Saturday.

Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol will also be unavailable for selection. Rodri is anticipated to travel to Molineux, despite initial expectations that he would be out of action until after the September international break due to recovery from ligament surgery.

“His return is imminent,” Guardiola confirmed.

“Crucially, his knee is in excellent condition. He now requires minutes in training and, when feasible, some playing time in matches. We aim to avoid a premature return that leads to setbacks due to a lack of rhythm.”

“He has performed well in training sessions. He will be part of the traveling squad [to Wolves], and we will assess whether to give him some playing time. The hope is that he can participate in the next three games, allowing him to contribute fully after the international break.”
