Chelsea Secures Victory Over Los Angeles FC at FIFA Club World Cup Opener

ATLANTA: At Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday afternoon, Chelsea triumphed over Los Angeles FC with a 2-0 victory in their FIFA Club World Cup debut. Goals were secured by Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez, while Liam Delap marked his first appearance for the team.

Neto propelled Chelsea into the lead in the 34th minute, capitalizing on a precise downfield pass from Nicolas Jackson. He skillfully evaded defender Ryan Hollingshead before driving the ball into the net.

Delap, in his debut, also played a role by providing an assist in the 79th minute. His well-placed cross found Fernandez, who converted with a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from close range.

Chelsea asserted dominance, maintaining possession for 65.3% of the match and launching 17 shots, while Los Angeles recorded seven.

Robert Sanchez registered four saves, compared to Lloris’ three, and Chelsea earned seven corner kicks to Los Angeles’ one.

During the first half, Chelsea controlled nearly 66% of possession, attempting nine shots compared to Los Angeles’ single attempt.

Los Angeles also created opportunities, notably when Denis Bouanga had a chance to equalize in the 57th minute, but Sanchez thwarted his attempt from the left side of the box.
