Aun Chaudhry, the Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis, attended the 30th anniversary commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide in Potočari, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on July 11. He was present as a representative of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the “International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica,” which is recognized by the United Nations.
During the solemn event, Chaudhry shared Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s well wishes and prayers for the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina with top Bosnian officials. These included Dr. Denis Bećirović, a Member of the Presidency; Zukan Helez, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Defence Minister; and Elmedin Konaković, the Foreign Minister.
The minister also handed over a letter from Prime Minister Shehbaz to the Bosnian leaders. The letter was read aloud during the ceremony and emphasized Pakistan’s solidarity with Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as its acknowledgment of the tragic events of 1995.
In his comments and discussions, Chaudhry underscored Pakistan’s steadfast diplomatic, political, and moral support for Bosnia and Herzegovina during the conflict of 1992–95.
He mentioned that 3,000 Pakistani soldiers were sent to Tuzla as part of the UN Peacekeeping mission. They were among the first to provide assistance to Srebrenica’s survivors.
He restated Pakistan’s firm dedication to international law and human rights, opposing denial and impunity in global situations, such as those in Srebrenica, Palestine, and Jammu & Kashmir.
