Modric Reportedly Set to Join AC Milan After Real Madrid Exit
Luka Modric, the esteemed Croatian midfielder, has reportedly agreed to transfer to AC Milan. Igli Tare, the Serie A club’s sporting director, verified the agreement on Wednesday.
Modric had previously declared in May his departure from Real Madrid following the FIFA Club World Cup. His exit concludes a distinguished 13-year tenure with Los Blancos, during which he secured 28 titles, notably six Champions League crowns.
Tare confirmed that the Croatian international consented to join the team during private discussions conducted earlier in the month.
“During our personal conversation, I encountered a player keen to compete. His addition is essential for a squad in need of players exhibiting leadership,” Tare commented.
“Luka’s primary inquiry was: ‘Are we assembling a team poised to secure the championship?’ A six-time Champions League victor, he aspires to be a key player from the outset.
“His influence on mindset, leadership, and professionalism will be substantial. His allegiance to AC Milan amplifies the excitement, and a remarkable season culminating in the World Cup would be ideal.”
Reports suggest that Milan and Modric have settled on personal terms. The Croatian player is anticipated to join the club in July, subsequent to the Club World Cup. He is expected to sign a contract valued at €3.5 million ($4 million) annually, inclusive of an option for a further year.
The Italian team’s choice to enlist Modric emerged following Tijjani Reijnders’ purported €68 million transfer to Manchester City.
