Karachi Resident Seeks Compensation from Tailor Over Late Delivery

A resident of Karachi, dissatisfied with a tailor for failing to deliver garments in time for his brother’s engagement, has resorted to legal measures, seeking Rs100,000 in damages.

The individual has filed a complaint with the Consumer Protection Court (South), requesting the court to summon the shop proprietor.

According to the plaintiff, the tailor had assured that the attire would be ready by February 20. Despite several visits to the shop, the garments remained uncompleted.

The complainant further stated that the delay compelled him to procure alternative clothing for his brother’s engagement ceremony.

In his petition to the court, the resident is seeking a penalty of Rs50,000 for the unfulfilled commitment, alongside an additional Rs50,000 as recompense for the emotional distress caused.

Reportedly, the complainant handed over materials for Balochi needlework on three occasions in December 2024 and January 2025, along with some initial payment.

The defendant pledged to complete the garments prior to the petitioner’s brother’s engagement, scheduled for February 20.

Upon visiting the shop on February 10, 2025, to retrieve the clothes, the defendant cited the unavailability of staff as the reason for the delay. Subsequent daily visits revealed that the garments had not been worked on at all.
