Swiatek Reacts to Rumored Swift Engagement

NEW YORK: Iga Swiatek had additional reasons to celebrate besides her victory in the US Open first round on Tuesday. The tennis star, a six-time major champion and avid Taylor Swift fan, was delighted upon hearing the news that her music idol, Taylor Swift, is reportedly engaged to NFL player Travis Kelce.

Shortly after her straight-sets win against Emiliana Arango of Colombia, she noticed the significant announcement on her mobile device.

The news of Swift’s potential engagement quickly gained traction online, amassing 18 million likes swiftly. Last year, both Swift and Kelce were present at the US Open men’s final.

An American sports analyst, Mary Carillo, paused a match broadcast to share the update, underscoring the widespread intrigue surrounding the situation.

During the post-match press conference, Swiatek was asked several questions about Swift, to which she responded courteously.

For at least a brief moment, the worlds of music and sports were united, despite the Polish tennis player’s smooth advancement to the second round. According to her, there could not be a better post-match celebration.

Swiatek mentioned that when she concluded her match, Swift made the announcement, suggesting it might not be coincidental and emphasizing that the singer deserves happiness.

“She posted when I finished. Maybe that’s not a coincidence,” Swiatek remarked.

“Well, I’m just happy for her, because she deserves the best.”

She commented that the star had a history of relationships and expressed her wish for lasting happiness this time.

“Obviously she had a lot of boyfriends, so we know all about that. So hopefully this one will, you know, stick forever. Travis seems like a great guy,” she commented.
