The Punjab government is planning a significant expenditure of Rs 1.14 billion on the purchase of 108 new vehicles designated for ministers and government officials. The Transport Wing has put forth formal recommendations for this procurement, with the acquisition process set to commence upon receiving final approval.
The proposed fleet includes 28 vehicles for the Punjab cabinet, valued at Rs 300 million. This selection features a Land Cruiser, two Haval 1.5 vehicles, five Toyota Grande Altis, and a combined total of twenty Toyota Altis and Yaris models. Additionally, two bulletproof four-by-four vehicles, costing Rs 40 million, have already received government approval for purchase for two ministers.
In a related development, 25 vehicles worth Rs 270 million for VIP security duties have also been approved, highlighting a focus on security-related transportation. The Chief Minister’s Inspection Team is set to receive vehicles valued at Rs 530 million to bolster its operational and field activities. This fleet will comprise 30 double-cabin pickup trucks, 11 Toyota Yaris, and three Toyota Altis cars, supplemented by Suzuki Cultus cars and motorcycles for enhanced mobility during inspections across various regions.
Officials stated that the vehicle procurement will begin once the recommendations secure final clearance.
