Sheikha Asma Al Thani Appointed as Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism
Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister, has designated Qatari royal Sheikha Asma Al Thani as Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism. This announcement follows her recent successful ascent of Nanga Parbat, also known as the ‘Killer Mountain’.
After her successful climb of Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth-highest mountain situated in Gilgit-Baltistan, the Prime Minister conveyed his congratulations to the Qatari royal through a post on X, acknowledging her accomplishment as a source of inspiration and strength.
“I am delighted to name Her Highness Sheikha Asma Al Thani as the Brand Ambassador for Pakistan’s Mountains and Tourism,” the Prime Minister stated on X.
“I extend my sincere congratulations to Her Highness on her recent achievement of scaling Nanga Parbat. It is truly inspiring! Her accomplishment conveys a powerful message of courage and resolve, serving as a symbol of the enduring bond between Pakistan and Qatar.”
Nanga Parbat earned the moniker ‘Killer Mountain’ because of its challenging terrain and severe weather conditions. It is recognized as one of the most perilous peaks worldwide for mountaineers.
Sheikha Asma’s successful summit of this daunting peak represents a major milestone in her climbing career.
Following her ascent of the deadly mountain, Sheikha Asma shared her thoughts on her demanding journey to the summit in a heartfelt post on her Instagram account.
“Alhamdulillah — Nanga Parbat. My ninth 8000er and one of the most challenging climbs I’ve encountered. This mountain tested me in ways I didn’t anticipate, from black ice to frequent rockfall. A reminder of life’s fragility,” she penned.
“But even amidst the peril, there was personal growth, acceptance, and untapped strength. I climb not only to reach the top, but also to reconnect with what truly counts, filter out distractions and find myself. This mountain will forever hold a place in my heart.”
