Lancashire Investigates Incident Involving Pakistan Jersey
MANCHESTER: During the recent fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford, a cricket enthusiast named Farooq Nazar was reportedly requested to conceal his Pakistan cricket team jersey.
A video circulating on social media captured Nazar, a fan of the Pakistan side, wearing the team’s jersey at the venue. A member of the security personnel at Old Trafford approached him shortly after.
“Control has asked if you could cover that shirt up, please,” the security guard can be heard saying in the recording.
Nazar responded by asking for documented instructions, a request that the security personnel apparently relayed. Subsequently, Nazar was seen in conversation with stewards, who advised him to cover the jersey, suggesting it “might be considered nationalistic”.
Later, a police officer approached Nazar and asked him to move the discussion away from the spectators.
The video concludes at this point; however, reports indicate that Nazar chose to leave the stadium rather than hide his Pakistan jersey.
The footage gained traction on social media platforms, particularly amid heightened political tensions between Pakistan and India following cross-border issues earlier this year.
While the specific day of the Test match when this occurred remains unclear, Lancashire Cricket Club has affirmed that an inquiry into the matter will be conducted.
“We are aware of the reported incident and are taking measures to fully understand the relevant context and facts,” stated a representative from Lancashire.
