Usman Khawaja Shares Heartfelt Video of Injured Palestinian Children

SYDNEY: Australian Test cricketer Usman Khawaja has once again voiced his concerns regarding the continuing hostilities in Palestine, with a particular focus on the suffering of innocent children caught in the conflict.

Recognized for his outspoken advocacy on humanitarian concerns, Khawaja recently used social media to disseminate a moving video depicting Palestinian children who had sustained injuries.

In his online message, Khawaja reiterated his condemnation of the ongoing acts of violence perpetrated against Palestinians, especially children, and implored individuals to speak out against such injustices.

Usman posted, “Hard to watch… Imagine living it.”

“We are STILL witnessing these atrocities in real time. UNICEF has referred to it as ‘a graveyard for children,’ and children are still being murdered nearly two years later. HUMANS are being starved to death and attacked at first aid stations.

“I will continue to state that if this ever becomes acceptable to us, we are truly lost. Continue speaking out. Always support humanity, equality, and a better future,” he continued.

This is not the first instance of the Pakistan-born cricketer, who is also a practicing Muslim, speaking out against the violence in Gaza.

He had previously expressed strong disapproval of the alleged murder of over 130 Palestinian children in a single day.

Khawaja posted on Facebook, along with a screenshot from American activist Omar Suleiman showing the body of a baby, “Over 130 children killed in one day. For no reason, to break a CEASEFIRE.”

“Now picture that occurring on the other side. The outcry that would result. Not all lives are created equal. For some reason, these children will only be footnotes or statistics in history. But, like you, they have names, mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers. We cannot accept this level of brutality as normal, though I fear we already have. I find it hard to believe this is still occurring.”

The 38-year-old has consistently voiced his opposition to the Israel-Palestine conflict, utilizing his platform and presence on the cricket field to bring attention to the issue.

During Australia’s home Test series against Pakistan in late 2023, he attempted a silent protest by writing “Freedom is a human right” and “All lives are equal” on his footwear.

However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) determined that it violated its regulations.

Khawaja chose to wear a black armband during the first Test in response, but the ICC still punished him for displaying a “personal message.”

Khawaja criticized the ICC’s inconsistent enforcement of its regulations in the wake of the reprimand.

Khawaja told Fox Cricket, “I just believe that so much has occurred in the past that sets a precedent.”

He continued, “Other guys that have religious things on their equipment, under the ICC guidelines that’s not technically permitted, but the ICC never says anything on that.”
