The sisters of the incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan have voiced strong criticism against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership, citing “complete silence” and a lack of meaningful action concerning his legal battles and release. Speaking outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Aleema Khan, along with her sisters Uzma Khan and Noureen Khanum, questioned the absence of key party figures like Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Latif Khosa, and Barrister Ali Zafar from pursuing Imran Khan’s cases.
Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023 after convictions he claims are politically motivated, remains a central figure in national politics and the PTI. His health has recently become a point of contention, with a report submitted to the Supreme Court by his lawyer highlighting concerns. He was recently transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for ongoing treatment of an eye condition.
Aleema Khan emphasized that her brother is the core of the party and that the family will continue to advocate for him regardless of actions taken by the Interior Minister. Uzma Khan echoed these sentiments, stating that the family often lacks information about the ongoing cases and that the party leadership is “nowhere to be seen.”
Questions were raised about the role of PTI lawyers who have become members of parliament, and Aleema Khan recalled Imran Khan’s belief in an “ideological party.” She criticized the party’s lack of response to statements made by the Interior Minister, which she claimed blamed the sisters for the situation. Despite Imran Khan’s directives to file legal petitions, Aleema alleged that neither the party chairman nor its lawyers have made progress, and that decisions are being made without family consultation.
Aleema Khan also expressed dissatisfaction with Barrister Gohar’s performance as party chairman, noting a failure to get cases heard in higher courts. She asserted that the family is aware of individuals within the party she referred to as “traitors.” Furthermore, concerns were raised about alleged pressure on government doctors, with a demand for the family’s own doctors to be present during medical examinations. The sisters are demanding accountability from the party leadership regarding their silence and stance on Imran Khan’s situation.
