The Rock’s WWE Future in Question After Academy Award?

Vince Russo, a former WWE personality, speculates that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s potential Academy Award win could jeopardize his return to the wrestling organization.

In 2024, Dwayne Johnson, recognized in the wrestling world as The Rock, surprised fans with his comeback to WWE, marking his first appearance since September 2023.

Initially, The Rock was slated to have a significant part at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, where John Cena seemingly aligned himself with The Final Boss, leading to an attack on Cody Rhodes.

However, Johnson subsequently disappeared from the storyline, with minimal mentions thereafter.

WrestleMania 41 concluded with Cena securing his 17th world championship, surpassing Ric Flair’s previous record.

Adding to the shock, Cena turned heel for the first time in over two decades.

The Rock later explained in an interview that his absence was a deliberate choice to ensure Rhodes and Cena remained the focal point. While absent, he conceded he would have altered the show’s conclusion had he been involved.

Russo discussed The Rock’s possible in-ring return, suggesting Johnson might not revisit a platform he has surpassed.

He elaborated that an Academy Award victory would further diminish the likelihood of a return.

“For The Rock, returning to wrestling would be a step backward. Now, we’re considering an Academy Award winner, signifying career progression. The Rock isn’t inclined to regress,” Russo commented.
